Oworonshoki Royal family, Residents opposes imposition of former Kosofe vice chairman as King

The Royal Family of Oworonshoki Kingdom in Lagos State has opposed the alleged imposition of Oba Babatunde Saliu as the new King in Oworonshoki Kingdom.
Newsmen recalled that Lagos State Government on Wednesday installed a former Vice Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Mr Babatunde Saliu, as the new King for the town.
Other chiefs of Oworonshoki Kingdom said the imposed King was not the king elect by the king makers in the palace.
According to him, Babatunde is not the chosen one among the prince he just use his influence as a politician to attain the throne.
The Royal family like wise the Oworoshoki'residents were not in support of his kingship because we know that Prince Nurudeen Saliu, the eldest son of the late Oba Bashir Oloruntoyin Saliu is the chosen one by the Kingmakers to attain the throne.
"We are appealing to the state governor to come to our aid in Oworonshoki Kingdom to settle this kingship tussle once and for all to avoid conflicts within the community.
Abore of Oworoshoki' in person of Chief Suraju, told NAN that the way Babatunde attain the throne was not in accordance with the laid down culture and tradition of the Yorubas more so, the chiefs of Owowroshoki were not ready to betrayed the trust of late Oba Oloruntoyin Saliu.
He said that spiritual consultations and other cultural practice needed to be done before straining the throne but was neglected by the imposed King.
"All we want from the state government is to ensure the king elect attain the throne in Oworonshoki Kingdom to avoid chaos in the community," he said.
'Olori' Olayinka Saliu, the Wife of the late monarch, Oba Bashir Saliu, while narrating her ordeal said Babatunde after .being imposed as the king allegedly chased them out of the palace.
" I was chased out of palace like a criminal, imagine me as an Olori in a palace been dragged by law enforcement by the instructions of the imposed king, this is a taboo in our land.
"Both the royal family and the community didn't want Babatunde as our king and it is very obvious because why will you be threatening your family with security officials because of position? It is very unfortunate," she said.
Ajagunna one of the chiefs in Oworonshoki kingdom said that the whole family and the community were not aware about Babatunde becoming the next king in palace.
"Nobody was aware about his position, he used political influence to attain the position he is not the choice of the king makers, the family and the community and we want the state government to intervene to avoid conflicts in the land," he said. Bid to speak with the alleged imposed king Babatunde Saliu was fruitless as he did not pick his calls at the time of filling this report.
