While late Amb (Chief) Segun Olusola was serving as Nigerian Ambassador in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia between July 1987 to Jan 1993, he had the rare privilege interfacing with - former heads of state, ex-presidents, Senators, business gurus, turned Refugees and Displaced Persons.
This motivated him to found the African Refugees Foundation (AREF) with some of his colleagues, associates, etc in September 1993 after his diplomatic assignments.
However, the genocide situation in Rwanda propelled the immediate launching of AREF and African Garments for African Refugees (AGAR), a Department in AREF to produce garments for the Rwandees in various sizes with our local textiile fabrics.
The Chief Executive Officer of AREF, Mr Olujimi Olusola III enunciated the immediate actions of the Foundation in the present circumstances to address the "F" in AREF i.e. Facilitating Development and Encouraging Peace.
AREF brought on its Board,a new corp of Trustees, versatile in their various disciplines to uplift AREF and cushion the effect of the refugee and internal displacement phenomenon.

Mr Olusola iii expressed the intention of the new Board to consolidate on AREF's past record of performance.
The Hon. President, Chief (Mrs) Opral Benson further buttressed the point that the twin-link between AREF and the trustees is a chemical bond, which will continue to react positively to enable AREF accomplish its stated Mission and Vision at all times.
