" I saw it coming but hopeful in God"s miracle"  -- Iyalode Alaba Lawson's Last Child

Oreoluuwa Obey- Fabiyi,  the last child of the late Iyalode Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Lawson,  narrated his last  moment with his beloved mother before  submitting to the cool hand of death. 

Oreoluwa, who is the son of the music legend, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, told the Nigerian Tribune that the vacuum Iyalode of Yorubaland left behind was too big to be filled by anyone and that her legacy would be treasured as she was well known to be a cheerful giver, disciplinarian, people-oriented, and exceptional personality.

On behalf of the family, he thanked the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, top government officials, and well-meaning Nigerians for their moral support and prayers for the family in these trying times. He also acknowledged the support of his father before and after the incident.

He, however, revealed that Governor Abiodun had made provision to fly Chief (Mrs.) Lawson abroad for more exclusive medical treatment, but the deceased pleaded to remain in the country, just as he appreciated the governor, his family, and the people of Ogun State for their unprecedented support for the family. 

Oreoluwa, an engineer, stressed that he was indeed grateful to God to have come through such great parents, adding, “The privilege to have great parents like Evangelist (Prof.) Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi and the late Iyalode of Egba and Yorubaland, Chief (Mrs.) Alaba Oluwaseun Lawson is more than enough. I can only be grateful to God that I came through them. No one can tell the way God works. I am so privileged because they have been so loving.”

On his last moment with his mother, Oreoluwa noted that he saw it coming but hopeful in  God’s miracle, adding that “I could not imagine it when she called my elder brother and me to the hospital. She put her glasses on and picked up a pen and her notebook to write out her funeral arrangement plan. It was somehow for me, but I summoned courage.”

“For her, she wanted a simple last journey. After the conversation, she smiled, and we took a family picture. I also got her blessings while she placed her hand on my head and prayed. I am very close to her, and this is why people call me ‘Oreoluwa oko iya e’. I will miss her so much, but I know she has gone to rest in God’s bosom,” he added.

He also hinted that the burial arrangement would soon be made public as the committee set up by Governor Abiodun had met with the family.

The Nigerian Tribune reported that the deceased is survived by grandchildren, six children, and his husband, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi.
