 Apapa LG empowers 200 residents with skill acquisition, start-up capital worth N20m

(NAN) The Chairman Apapa Local Government in Lagos State Mrs Idowu Senbanjo, has empowered 200 residents with skills acquisition, startup kits, cash grants, and equipments worth N20million for self reliance.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that graduation involved youths, elderly and vulnerables in Apapa community who benefitted from the free skill acquisition programme.


Senbanjo while making his remarks during the ceremony on Wednesday congratulated the graduands for their commitment and perseverance in the acquisition of the skill programmes.


The council boss advised them to put to use immediately the skills they have acquired, as there was no better time for them to appreciate what they have learnt than now.


She added that the challenges that follow the removal of fuel subsidy would enable everyone to look inward and develop their inherent gift and skills.


Senbanjo wished them success in their chosen vocation and reminded them that they possess unique gifts in them that could only be discovered by being resolute, dogged, and determined.


"We charge you not to limit yourselves to what they have taught you here but to make use of the internet by enrolling in a course that will improve and develop you to be a sought after entrepreneur," she said.


The Council boss also commended the Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) Department for their consistent sustenance of one of her electioneering promises to the community.


She appreciated the management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA) who have decided to re-construct the LG's Vocational Centre and equip it with modern-day equipments.


Senbanjo also thanked the outgone lawmaker Representing Apapa Federal  Constituency at the lower chamber at the National Assembly, Rep. Mufutau Egberongbe, for facilitating the construction of Apapa Youth Centre at Ladylak Primary School Apapa.


 Alhaji Fatai Sanni, a Former Council Chairman in Apapa in his remarks urged the graduands to be up and doing and make judicious use of the working tools given to them such that they too could be employers of labour.


Miss Miracle Peters, who spoke on behalf of other graduands appreciated the council chairman and her team for the privilege given to them to benefit from the free skill programmes.


Peters also gave kudos to their instructors for the knowledge impacted and promised to be good ambassadors of the local government.


NAN reports that the graduands could not hold their joy as the council chairman presented them with equipments ranging from sewing machines, laptops, make-up kits, starter pack, and more according to their chosen vocation and cash rewards. (NAN)
