(NAN) Ifako-ijaiye Local Government in Lagos State on Saturday celebrated Nigeria 62nd Independent Anniversary with both Primary and Secondary Schools within the council area as he assured more educational support.


Prince Usman Hamzat, the Executive Chairman of the council in his remarks during the independent celebrations said there were many reasons the citizens needed to celebrate as we were liberated 62 years ago. 


Hamzat who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs Oluwatoyin Awoniyi, said that the citizens hope would be rekindled as the people's expectations continue increasing.


"I know there will be a light at the end of the tunnel, as we are celebrating our 62nd independent anniversary we assure you that citizens continue enjoy the dividend of democracy.


"I implore all the students to remain patriotic, avoid social vices, this is your country and our country, we assure you that we will do more for you and for your teachers.


"We urge you to go out and vote when it is time for the general election, cast your vote for All Progressive Congress (APC) for better tomorrow and we assure you that the residents will also enjoy more dividend of democracy," she said.


Awoniyi said that the residents should be expecting better things with new empowerment, innovations and more projects would come to the community as the local government would continue to serve them better..


Alhaji Adelani Lawal, the Local Government Supervisor for Education in his remarks thanked God for allowing us witness another 62nd independent anniversary.


Lawal said that Nigerian citizens needed to be thanking God for His continuous blessings over us.


"People should be expecting more progress we should focus our attention on Almighty God and continue praying for Nigeria and by the special Grace of God the country will excel," he said.


The supervisor also appealed to the residents to come out en masse to cast their votes for APC during election for betterment of the people and the society at large.


Lawal also advised the students to be more patriotic and shun social vices that could affect the community development. (NAN)
