By Kazeem Akande
(NAN) Itire Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State is determined to provide more infrastructure to enhance the living standard of its residents, its Executive Chairman, Dr Ahmed Apatira, has said.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that many projects were on the way in the areas of healthcare delivery, infrastructural renewals, quality education and agriculture.
He said that social services, environmental health, women affairs and poverty alleviation and staff welfare were all part of his administration’s areas of concern.
Apatira also said that the council had provided some social amenities since his inauguration for a second term in office.
“Critical infrastructural projects and other social amenities visible to all and sundry have been provided since my inauguration for a second term in office.
“This will be continued throughout my tenure.
“We have embarked on so many projects which include the just inaugurated 500 metres Omilani Road, completion of Taiwo Street at Odo-Olowu and the second phase of Oredola Street in Itire Community.
“Others include the purchase of operational vehicles to the environmental service department and revenue committee, construction of mini water plant at the council secretariat and scholarship for indigent students.
“We have also renovated the Itire-Ikate Council Chamber,” he said.
According to him, the recent reports insinuating that government activities are abandoned are not true.
The council boss said it was important to correct those erroneous impressions.
The chairman also said that the executive, legislature and management team of the council were executing their duties as enshrined in the constitution.
“It is noteworthy to state that the chairman does not work in isolation as there are other layers of the administration going about their legitimate duties.
“There are enormous responsibilities hence the provision for other organs and agents of the government,” he added.
According to him, his administration can also be credited with people-oriented projects which include Oshogbo and Ashimowu Bakare streets.
He said that provision of solar powered-street lights and the agricultural training centre facilitated by Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, was part of people-oriented projects.
The chairman urged the residents to cooperate with his administration to enhance more infrastructural development and people-oriented projects. (NAN
