(NAN) Kosofe Local Government in Lagos says it will give priority to health, education and road construction in its 2022 budget.


Executive Chairman of the council, Mr Moyosore Ogunlewe, stated this in his remarks at the Annual Stakeholders’ Budget Retreat, on Monday.


Ogunlewe, however, said that all other important sectors of the economy would also receive attention in the 2022 fiscal year.


“We will put priority on the key areas like health, primary education and road construction, while other sectors like electricity, environment, personnel development and sporting activities for youths will also take the front burner,” he said.


According to him, purchase of vehicles for police and school children, among others, will also take be given consideration.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogunlewe, during the financial discussions, also reeled out his expectations for the current fiscal year.


He said that the local government had embarked on a ‘purposeful and developmental journey’ in the last five months in order to fulfill the objectives of being in the lead.


“Our purpose is to fulfill the objectives of being at the helm of affairs and also ensure that the impact of governance is felt by all and sundry within the local government council,” he said.


The council chairman added that the occasion was aimed at objectively analysing, discussing and also reflecting on last year’s budget as well as making critical projections into the new year.


According to him, the budget retreat will allow the council to raise the bar of performance and improve on the achievements of the local council.


The council chairman appealed to all residents and the council staffers to be in united as they embarked on bigger, better, purposeful and laudable projects this fiscal year.


Ogunlewe said that his administration has resolved to redouble its efforts at making the people of the council area happy since they had expressed their appreciation through the feedback mechanism put in place by the people themselves.


In his address, Head of Administration of the local government, Mr Muhammed Arole, appreciated the chairman, members of the management and the guests for their all-round support to the new administration.


Arole said that the purpose of the retreat was to prepare for sustainable development of the entire council this year.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the council’s Head of Budget, Planning and Statistics, Mrs Adebola Adeshina, delivered a lecture on capital overhead and expenditure of the 2021 budget, while also reviewing the 2022 budget.


NAN also reports that the budget retreat witnessed intellectual debate and presentations on how to expand the revenue base of the council. (NAN)
