TRAINING ON GENDER - BASED VIOLENCE FOR POLICE AND CIVIL DEFENCE OFFICERS
COMMANDANT EWEKA APPROVES HUNDRED (100) OFFICERS FOR A FULL FLEDGED 3 - DAY TRAINING ON GENDER - BASED VIOLENCE HELD AT IKEJA AMERICAN CORNER IN LAGOS.

1.Sequel to the letter of invitation to the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Okoro Msc ACMA CNA, dated 1st December, 2021, received from the office of the United States Consulate General, in Lagos, which requested to train a hundred Police and Civil Defence officers on Gender - Based Violence, for three(3) days held at, Ikeja American Corner, Courier Plus Compound, Lagos, Commandant Eweka Okoro approved a hundred Civil Defence officers to fully participate at the training.
2.In accordance with the purpose of the invitation, the 3 - day ( December 6th - 8th) training was in commemoration of the 16days of Activism against Gender - Based Violence, organised for a hundred Police and Civil Defence Officers by the United States Consulate Lagos in partnership with Women at Risk International Foundation ( WARIF ) and the United States based International Association of Chiefs of Police ( IACP ) .
3. The Commandant, immediately, directed the Head of Unit, Anti - Human Trafficking, Illegal Migration and Gender - Based Violence Unit( ATHIMU), Assistant Commandant Chika Chukwurah to lead the the officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command to the training and ensure their adequate, proper participation and professional conduct.
4. The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Okoro also as expected delivered brief remarks at the closing day of the event, yesterday, Wednesday, 8th December, 2021, which was centred on "Gender - Based Violence."
5. Commandant Eweka, in his remarks at the closing ceremony of the training, yesterday said "in line with the vision of the Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi Phd mni, to rejig, revamp, reposition and re-invigorate the Corps, the Corps will continue, to support stakeholders to continue to wage war against Gender - Based Violence and ensure that we realize the global goal of zero tolerance to Gender - Based Violence, in the long run, through training and retraining of personnel as well as effective participation and collaboration with stakeholders such as this.
6.Furthermore, Commandant Eweka, in his bid to consistently and proactively walk is talk, on synergy and collaboration with the stakeholders said that the Command will remain resolute in its fight against Gender - Based violence without sentiments. He as well charged the trainees from both the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force, to judiciously and proactively deploy the skills, tacts, techniques and knowledge they have received from the training at their various complaints' desks, in a bid to reduce or completely eradicate the menace often caused by Gender - Based Violence.
7.Finally, the Commandant Lagos State Command, Commandant Eweka Okoro seized the opportunity to appreciate the United States Consulate General Claire Pierangelo, United States Consulate Lagos for graciously extending the invitation to the Command. He also appreciated WARIF and IACP for their relentless efforts in training the trainers and pursuing a zero tolerance goal, in the fight against Gender - Based Violence. He opined that workshops, trainings and seminars on gender related matters are today, however, germaine for all officers and men at all levels and must be consistently done and propagated with a high level of sensitization and collaboration with other sister security agencies, to ensure greater achievements in internal security and peace support operations amongst others.
