| Chioma Ajunwa addressing Widows |
On Christmas eve, the Chioma Ajunwa Foundation empowered
nearly 80 widows drawn from every part of Nigeria on Christmas eve at her
residence in Ikeja, Lagos with gifts and cash. This year’s edition is Season
4 of the foundation’s demonstration of love to widows.
She has passion to give to people that do not have not
because she has much but due to an understanding about the travails of widows
which was learned from her mother, a widow who singlehandedly trained 9 children
for over 38 years.
Dr. Mrs. Chioma Ajunwa sunk a borehole for a community
without water, secured a transformer to provide power supply for a community
that has been in darkness for one a year amongst many other acts of kindness.
This is a way of giving back to society, she said. In her words – “If I’m in a community and they know me and
there's no difference, I am not worthy to be there. If God could pick me from
nowhere to become somebody, why would I not use the position to impact my
immediate environment? Nobody knows how tomorrow will be. Now that I'm here I
must make an impact.”
She emphasized that the Foundation will be writing to individuals
and organizations for collaboration on women empowerment and provision of
scholarships to underprivileged students.
The widows who received rice, cash presents, wrappers, and other
items from the Ajunwa Foundation expressed their gratitude and prayed for the
foundation's continued success.
She encouraged everyone to have the mind of giving as
the government can’t do it alone. She thanked God and everyone who lent an arm
of support to this project.
Dr Mrs. Chioma
Ajunwa is Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold Medalist, member of Nigerian Falcon and an
Assistant Commissioner of Police.
