COURTESY VISIT TO GENERAL KOLLINGTON AYINLA
On Thursday October 7th, 2021 KEBE N'KWARA FANS CLUB, one of the numerous fans clubs of General Kollington Ayinla, paid a courtesy visit to their fuji icon at his Agbado residence. Indeedly, it was a memorable one.
The dynamic Club was led by Chief Sam Adeniyi Fabunmi (President) and accompanied by Prince Abiodun Aroge Ogundele, Mr Dele Ogabi, Mr Lukman Aperun and Arole Wole Adediran to appreciate Kollington's contributions to the development of Fuji genre of music and the entertainment industry in general.
Kollington has penchant for saying the truth to whoever and has seriously used his music as a veritable channel to communicate with both the government and the public without fear or favour. Kollington is a fearless Singer and Composer. He is endowed with accommodative nature to all and sundry but purely on serious productive engagements not for mundane issues.
On the ground, we met Kollington Ayinla himself, Mr Ayilara Ajasa (General Manager), Mandela (Band Captain) and his current Marketer from Golden business outfit. We were graciously received.
The visit coincided with the arrival of the demo-disc of his new record about to hit the market very soon for his numerous fans. He directed that the disc be solely played to entertain us as his important guests. The record like cobweb was professionally and constructively woven around peaceful co-existence, Unity, Know-Thyself, Understanding, be pious and for government to govern well due to obvious poverty and violence all over, even for the blind to see. The prevalence of inequity and injustice walking on all four legs which need urgent attention. He emphasised that its a collective responsibility but appeal to our leaders and politicians to be more responsible and stop toying with our lives.
Kollington is known as Mr Current Affairs, as he never fails to draw government prompt attention to people's plight and equally advise the governed to be law abiding and shun anything that can trigger off chaos. The new record is well packaged with words of wisdom right from our ancestors.But despite his friendly mien and jocular nature, whoever that takes him for granted will spontaneously see his no-nonsense caustic tongue in action. But very quick to forgive once the fellow is remorseful. He is ever friendly and creative.
Chief Fabunmi intimated him with our activities as a serious Fans Club, while Prince Aroge encouraged General Kollington to reproduce some of his old records due to their unavailability in the market currently and a need to write his memoirs or a new biography for posterity sake. He was quick to thank both speakers and charged his General Manager to work on the issues raised and to draw his attention to then when required.
A wraped photo portrait of Chief Kollington was presented by the Club, when it was unveiled, it immediately elicited interest as he saw the photo for the first time , he eulogised the EXCO and Members of the Club for the honour that he both our presence and the gift. He offered his prayers.
While interfacing with him, he was quick to inform the gathering that he abhors celebrating his birthday due to personal reasons. But his families and friends are free to do whatever. He jocularly said - why do people always bother about when he was born and where he comes from? He indicated, he is not a fool. But he derived joy in turning such enquiries into drama in order to deepen his encounter with the fellow. Because he would never bring himself so low or encouraging any unnecssary aspersions to distract him. He enunciated that he is a Yoruba man from Nigeria with ancestral roots in Kwara State. He has passion to promote love, unity, peace and development. He emphasised that some of our leaders gave falseful dates of birth, which he would not attempt. He lambasted those in that bracket for lack of consciense and honour. And wondered aloud why the pretence?
He was delighted to entertain us with refreshment and bantas, forgetting that he is no longer what he used to be thirty years ago. The encounter was memorable and was rounded up with photo sessions, where we got the best from Baba Alatika. Kollington Ayinla is an enigma and a Philosopher of repute.
In all its ramifications, he shuns affluence and live a simple life devoid of arrogance but a very disciplined one.
Today, he is an accomplished Musician and a proudful father and grandfather with numerous achievements and awards to his credit. The most outstanding one is the 'General' awarded him by late General Sanni Abacha in recognition of his sterling contributions to the entertainment industry and fuji genre of music. He is ever a fantastic composer with deep native intelligence. The hostory of fuji and the industry is not complete without due references to him. No dull moment being with Kollington Ayinla popularly call KEBE N'KWARA BABA ALATIKA.
It was a delightful visit.
