Sporadic Gunshots at APC Congress as Two Factions Lock Horns in Alimosho
Sporadic gunshots rented the air at the just concluded APC congress in Alimosho local government which made the party members took to their heels for safety.
The Joke Adefulire - Orelope faction of the party and the Rauf Aregbesola's faction have been slugging it out over the years on who will be in control of the soul of the party in Alimosho.
The Aregbesola faction which has been having a smooth ride over the years is bent on alloting every elective office to itself during the general election and party affairs. But all has not been well with the local ruling party since 2017 when the Orelope faction woke up from its slumber to challenge the status quo demanding an all-inclusive system which the Rauf Aregbesola-led faction has not yielded to.
A source within the Rauf Aregbesola family who craved anonymity told our correspondent, "Truth be told, things are no longer the same in the Alimosho chapter of the All Progressives Congress. We used to be one big family but what is happening now is not too cool with me on a personal note. If you observe closely, the moment this crisis got to this stage, it has been affecting our political fortunes at every general elections."
"But to some, it is a no big deal because they are benefitting from the crisis by telling lies to our leaders. Are we also going into the 2023 general elections with a cracked house? This is all I can say - the situation is getting worse by the day", he concluded.
Our correspondent put a call through to Prince Idris Balogun, a House of Representatives aspirant, who said "It is baffling and worrisome for those claiming to be in charge of party machineries in Alimosho to be going about with thugs, guns and using men from the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to harass and scare those who they considered not in their camp."
"This is a disturbing situation, the front man of Aregbesola in Alimosho in person of Abdullahi Enilolobo should be called to order. The other day, we lost a member of this party at Akinogun Primary School in Mosan-Okunola LCDA during the Federal Constituency meeting in this same manner. Is it until the majority of the party members are killed that the national body will take action or when the party structure is totally weakened that won't be able to deliver a polling unit? Time shall tell," he concluded.
A parrarel congress however held as each camp elected and ratified a 27-man team that would oversee the affairs of the party at the local government level.
