TRIBUTES TO ' SISI CLARA ' OF THE VILLAGE HEADMASTER !

Tributes to Chief (Mrs) Elsie Olusola  (1954-1991)

Precisely, on July 4th 2021, it was 30 years ago when Elsie Olusola passed on to the celestial world. She was an engima.

Elsie Eniowoette Thomas- Nkunne was an Efik girl from Greek Town, Calabar, now Cross-River State. Born by an Efik father  - Chief Nkune ( The Travelling Headmaster). But, she had closer ties with her Itshekiri mother who was based in Warri.

She attended Warri Government School and the Methodist Girls School, Lagos.

Elsie went to London, attended Rose Bruford's College of Speech and Drama in Britain. A Linguist with a flawless command  of several other languages that include, Efik, Itshekiri, Igbo, Yoruba, Urhobo, English and German.

She encountered a few life challenges while in Britain, but waded through the storms and succeeded.

She freelanced for the (BBC) British Broadcasting Corporation (African Desk), London and later worked for Voice of America (VOA) (West African Desk), Lagos before she joined WNBC/WNTV Ibadan in 1960 as a Producer.

In the same year, she wrote her first play "Manhood  Symbolic" which was staged among other plays to mark Nigeria's independence. She later came into contact with Segun Olusola at the WNTV/WNBS and both later got married.

She served her guests and household with sumptuous meals with her beautiful clay plates. Sisi Clara was a virtuous woman, wife and mother. Ever a pillar of strength to her husband and a lot of people - respected by many and reverred by most.

She was a perfect partner for Segun.

Though, Elsie was evasive, she was a caring mother with an array of non-biological children within her becks and calls.

A socialite, bubbly and friendly, she was very independent, productive and resourceful. In broadcasting and theatre, she was a spectacular person.

No Sisi Clara, No Village Headmaster. Segun and Elsie made a perfect couple despite their encumbrances.

She was a tintilating epitome of beauty and purely elegant naturally.  She rarely concealed her dislikes and contempts for negativity

Elsie enjoyed been a natural and ditribalized person. She was a rare and impartial umpire, ready to square up with challenges. She surrounded herself with talents and brought uniqueness into family ties. A dramatist personified.

She left behind three children namely; Ronke, Jimi, Toyin and grand-children.
