Lagos, June 24, 2021 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has partnered the Lagos State Government on ways to eradicate spate of tanker explosions in the state.

Mr Peter Kibo, FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, in Charge of Ogun and Lagos State, made the disclosure at the first- half 2021 FRSC Zone RS2 retreat in Lagos on Thursday.

Kibo said the retreat was organised to build the capacity of the FRSC personnel and to synergise with the government to reduce tanker explosions in the state.

“It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the zonal retreat with the theme: Achieving Corps’ Mandate in the Midst of Current Global Pandemic.

“As the corps is saddled with the mandate of preventing and minimising road traffic crashes;

clearing of obstructions on highways; educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public on the proper use of the highway.

“We will ensure more synergy between the state government and transport stakeholders to eradicate tanker crashes on the road,” Kibo said.

He, however, urged motorists to always put their vehicles in proper condition before embarking on a journey and obey traffic signs to prevent crashes.

In his remarks, Dr Frederick Olaseinde, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, said efforts had been put in place by the government to ensure safety of motorists.

Olaseinde, represented by Mr Olowosago Karmal, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, said the state government had embarked on series of projects to advance the transportation sector.

“There are lots of developmental projects going on in the state to advance the transport sector. This is by linking road, rail and water for proper movement of people in the state,” he said.

He said connectivity of the transport system would reduce pressure on the major roads whereby movement of articulated vehicles and tanker crashes would be reduced.

”The state government and the FRSC are working together to bring to the bearest minimum the menace of tanker crashes on the Lagos roads.

“It is good synergy between the various traffic agencies and it has been working very well as the state government has provided some logistics to the corps for effective operations,” he said.

Olaseinde urged the tanker drivers and the motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations to reduce crashes on the roads. (NAN)
