PRESS CONFERENCE BY AGEGE CHAIRMANSHIP ASPIRANT; HON. OLUSOLA OSOLANA ON THE 14TH OF MAY, 2021
Good Morning Ladies, Gentlemen, and all the good people of Agege Local Government. My name is Olusola Osolana popularly called Sola Osolana. I am contesting for the post of Chairman of Agege Local Government. I welcome you all to listening to the things I have in mind for Agege and its environs. I am a graduate of Business Administration, and also a businessman within and outside the community. I am using this opportunity to speak with all Agege stakeholders of what I have in stock if elected in the forthcoming primary election in Lagos State. Together, I believe we can save Agege, make Agege great again than it used to be with the previous government, with a strategic, friendly and government of the people by been part of decision making. I am married to a wife and two children. I am bred and born here in Agege Local Government. I was born at Olusanyan, had my elementary school at Saka Tinubu Primary School, Saka Tinubu Secondary School before I proceeded to higher institution, later went out of the country for greener pastures before coming back home to Nigeria to start my business in 2006, to the glory of God the businesses are successful. I am also a politician, I have been a politician as a young boy because my father, Elder Johnson Alaba Osolana was a former chairman of Agege Local Government. In 2006, as a young boy then with driving experience, I became my father's driver, I drive him to any of his political functions. I was also a super delegate in 2006 when the chairman of Agege was been elected.
I have been in politics for a long time, contested for a nomination in 2011 for the Lagos State House of Assembly Agege Constituency 02. Also in 2017, I contested for the Chairmanship of Agege Local Government, in which I was asked by the party leader to step down for the present Local Government Chairman but I believe it is now time for the good people of Agege to know what I have for them.
Basically, I have 5-point agenda which will be everywhere, at the local government, our correspondence, the media, civil servant, and all over the platform. The agenda is called "HEEDS".
H for Health, we know how health is important, Yoruba people will say "Ilera ni oogun oro' whatever you which to do you must have sound health, if not you may not really perform;
E means Empowerment of youths and women;
E is Education with modern facilities;
D is Development of infrastructure, and;
S stands for sustainable development, there are some developments that are not sustainable. A continuous development even after I am done with my administration.
This press conference is an opportunity speaking directly to all party members of the All Progressive Congress going for primary election on May 29 and to all Agege citizen to actually know what Sola Osolana have in stock in order to serve the people of Agege.
Below is a question and answer session with the gentlemen of the press.
Good morning Hon and Gentlemen of the press. My name is Francis, I write for Kaftan post. Sir, you are a chip of the old block, you have seen it all and the journey didn't start today. Sir, one of your agenda is on development of infrastructure and you were once a Supervisor for Works and as a Businessman, investment is one of your priority. How can Agege become an investment hub for people because the local government is synonymous to many things not publicized enough by moving Agege to the next level. Thank you.
Thank u so much. If I get you correctly, you want Agege to be a business hub. First and foremost, my self-owned businesses are in Agege, minimum of three functioning guest houses that I employ over a 100 staff. I believe in Agege Local Government, first what we need is an enabling environment with security, you will want to have your business where it is secured, where it won't be burnt down during any crisis, and once security is tackled, road and drainages will not be washed away with flood, so investment goes with a lot, and we have actually partnered with public-private investors because we in Agege are very industrious. There was a popular bread called Agege Bread then, the private sector can be partnered to continue with the main Agege Bread as been produced by the Local Government at a very cheap rate at the local government, by the local government, established by the local government, and they will be happy for been sold to everyone at a cheaper rate.
Good morning Hon, my colleagues, I am Kolawole from Agege TV Online, I have two questions for you sir; firstly about your robust program for the youths, most politician have said so much on this but no implementation, what will your administration do differently regards this, also how will you revive the image of Agege to the world?
Thank you interns of youth empowerment, I have what is called 3M’s (Money, Materials and Mentorship). I said earlier there will be industries by the local government itself, sustainable industries. Firstly, we will get the youth, there is statistics and you know the educated, semi-educated, and the one that wants to trade needs 3M. Some of them just need money to establish, some need material, equipment for their trade and some of this our youths need mentorship. We will engage the youth, I remember Principal Cup when I was growing as a child here in Agege that is been neglected, so we can start with Chairmanship cup to engage Agege youths. Secondly talent hunt, some Agege youths can sing, rap, boxing, wrestling; with a Youth Center in Agege, they will be there for practice every day. No youths club or center is available in Agege but I am saying that with God, myself and the good people of Agege voting me, all this will come to stay for better usefulness of Agege youths. By the grace of God in my first term and precisely first year, youth center would have been established in Agege. For those who do not know how to write or where to send their Curriculum Vitae (CV), there will be mentorship for such an opportunity. Guinness is using part of Agege Local Government; she should be able to employ some of our youths. It’s an advantage to employ our youths and dittos to all private businesses in Agege too, we will work hand in hand to make sure Agege youths are engaged. Even if you want to be a bouncer/ security operative, talents does not limit to dancing, singing, literary and debating; some can be good in security, we will train them and also employ some of our trained street boys to make sure that Agege street is safe for all. Some can join us as volunteers, to be paid monthly just to make Agege street safe and with all these engagements, it will portray a good image of Agege out there and because Agege is lucky to have a stadium; we shall produce the best athletes in all sport ramifications.
I am Ekundayo Olumide (Political platform 101). You have to explain how you are going to execute all your political agenda and how you will solve the present insecurity challenge in Agege.
Thank you! I said it in my statement that we need to engage these youths, the community knows them and they reside in Agege. the engagement of ds street boys in Agege 7 wards will go a long way, if they are arrested by RSS after released they are back on d street harder than ever so engaging is d best, we meet them at d street since you like been on the street, then you become a street soldier. All they need is the Government’s support, an emergency number dedicated to Agege, call center to volunteers at areas like Atobaje, Isale Oja, Dopemu, Keke, Sango. During crisis, we will be able to tackle insecurity, with serious engagement the crime rate in Agege will drastically reduce in my administration.
I am Abayomi Durojaye, I write for Agege Pulse. I’m particularly about Agege Education, what will you do different?
Thank you so much. Like we all know education is paramount. Without education, as someone that attended public school, I cannot be where I am today. Firstly, we need to change the face and narrative of our public schools because not all parents can afford private schools, so we need to improve on infrastructure in our 28 schools in Agege. Most schools do not have toilets, even for teachers; benches and desks are of old fashion; the environment of learning goes a long way. Learning in a stuffy environment without windows, doors or benches, with a black chalkboard instead of the advanced marker board, computerized assessment and internet. Because of the advanced age that we are now, primary and secondary school in my administration, the best student from position 1-3rd will be encouraged by providing the student a free JAMB form, this is for all residence of Agege regardless of your status and it has nothing to do with politics. There will be free centers for lectures toward the exams and the tutors will be catered for by the local government of my administration by God's grace. Best kid in primary school will also enjoy the opportunity of common entrance exams and local government will cater for all pupils uniforms, writing materials and provision of free massive exercise books, pen, pencils, also extra-curricula activities will be revived with the general inter-house sport as it used to be in those days whereby there will be competition, supervisor for education at the local government, SUPEB, LGA will surely make it work and it takes courage, the willingness of the Executive Chairman to do this and I know with God and the good people of Agege on my side, Agege will be greater again.
Good morning Hon Sir, I am Oluwatoyin Mathnuel, I write for Insightmagonline. You have spoken well sir, but please do shed more light on the comfortability of Agege market men and women.
Thank You! In everything you do from an experience of my own business line, firstly you need accurate data, we need to identify how many markets does Agege have, are they registered traders? Do we have their numbers and what trade are they into, in my speech of employment, the market men and women are included. Firstly, the state of the market, the security of the market where they sell needs to be improved. More so, most market men and women don't have enough funds; my plan is to connect with some microfinance bank with free interest loan to restore their market and trade very well, the local government will negotiate interest and it will be paid by the local government. With data, it will be easier to get all this done to our mothers in the market. Some don't even need money but stuffs like bags of rice, with 50 bags of rice which will be given out and payment will be monthly without any interest, these are packages for our mothers, market men and women in Agege Local Government, if you sell pepper, fish and other stuff, you don't need more money to trade, we will support you through the loan because the local government may not be able to give out money, and because the sustainability of businesses is better than sharing fifty, hundred thousands of naira to friends and acquaintances and say we are doing empowerment which may not be continuous and there won't be any solution. Some may not need money materials because if you give money, it can be used for personal use so with this we need to be strategic to make sure d money given out is for the growth and enlargement of our market men and women various businesses. With a lot of market in Agege, if their lives are transformed definitely, it will affect the children/ kids and entire family.
I am Adegbero Nurudeen, I represent Hot-News Nigeria. Please emphasize on Primary Health Center for the youth, adults and aged in Agege.
Thanks. I am a passionate person about health. Fortunately, I am married to a medical doctor so I learn and listen to most of her complaints when she comes home to tell me how people suffer, Agege Health Centers are not functional as it supposed in all the 7 wards in Agege, there is a minimum of two, also 24-hour service should be run in all our health center with doctors and nurses available to our teeming population, if you reside in Sango, you don't need to look for health at Isale-Oja, childbirth will also be available with qualified matrons, midwifery of safe delivery. Also, the health center at Agege Pen Cinema can be developed into a mini General hospital where free tests, drugs, diagnosis will be ensured on patients, all these are part of my plan if elected as Agege Local Government Chairman. Free health care in your vicinity will be available and be executed except if the doctors in their own knowledge says the patient need to be referred but for basic health standard even for the aged of 70 years above, free eye test, surgery, and the likes will be produced freely with the Ministry of Health (MOH), the supervisors and conjunction with other stakeholders volunteer doctors/ consultant can emerge for free health for our people in Agege at least for social responsibilities when people see the seriousness and sincerity in the Government, they are willing to support.
As we are rounding up, if you have Agege residents, all stakeholders as all face screening before having the primary election. In one minute, what will you tell them?
I will tell them the time to save Agege is here, the time to make Agege great is here. I have seen it all in the private sector, I have also been part of d Government, I have learnt a lots, people ask me why do u want to contest and I tell them that, I have seen the lapses and I want to make a change, with principal according to party directives we must go to primary and elect , so in our own conviction please vote and elect Honorable OLUSOLA OSOLANA as the candidate to represent All Progressive Chairmanship candidate APC in the forthcoming election, there will be WhatsApp online number for volunteers in this election because we have to do it together because it’s not a one-man show. I also have plan of meet with Sola, Meet with Sola is a talk that holds every 3 months, you will be there. I will be there to speak on the way forward and listen to directives with correction of what we have not done well in my administration. Thank you very much!
