4th Community Town Hall Meeting At Egbe / Idimu LCDA On Sexual And Gender Based Violence 21rst April, 2021.
Sexual and Gender based violence (SGBV) is one of the most extreme expression of unequal gender relationship in the society. It is a violation of fundamental human rights and a global health and developmental issue. According to Precious Eberechukwu The Community Representative , Women"s Rights and Health Projects ( WRAHP) " Today's sensitisation and awareness is mostly for teenagers / adolescents because results of a recent research as documented the linkages between COVID-19 and the level of SGBV is of high rate in Alimosho LGA during the social lockdown restrictions, moreso of gender based violence among couples. So far, Alimosho accounted for the highest number of SGBV cases and the situation is getting worse each day so there is need for sensitisation, awareness , this is the fourth commuty town hall meeting in Egbe/ Idimu axis and there has been positive results so far, Perpetrators of various offenses has been brought to book with the help of the community leaders, the CDAs, security personals and the government involvement. Precious explained further that a victim of any of this abuses need not to Lodge his or her complain at the police counter instead Victims need to go straight to the body of Human Rights , The Gender Units, or The Family Service units because of confidentiality , these ones are trained officers with wide knowledge of understanding of such cases and better response to whatever cases related to domestic violence or SGBV ."
Wasiu Adefowope chairman Youths Egbe/ Idimu LCDA commended the effort of WRAHP for the sensitisation and awareness of violence against women in the society but buttressed the fact of indecent dressing among the adolescent which need to be look into according to African culture, "Though a girl/ lady may decided to walk nude, is no one business but for positive influence on the younger generations and for ones safety in this society of 20th century teenage, girl child , ladies and women should dress in moderation"
Faith Olamide Joseph an undergraduate of Creative Art at The University of Lagos shared a story of a friend who was a victim of rape but refused to speak out because of stigmatization, so been at the lecture was an opportunity to made her friend speak because she is protected by WRAHP. Mrs Olusegun expresses her joy to INSIGHTMAGONLINE repoter how the previous lecture of WRAHP of IRETI Resource Centre has made her to bring peace to a particular residential home in her area when she had to past the poster given out at the previous lecture at the gate of such compound and there has been peace ever since. ' Mrs Olusegun said this in Yoruba language that" Won beru Human rights ju Olopa lo" meaning the people at that particular building respect and honor WRAHP than the police. ' It is a very very memorable day of lecture, I am here for first time , I have learnt to report any means of violence against women even from her husband, also no religion, Iman or Pastor can ask any one to endure violence in her family and I have also learn to caution indecent dressing among my children and other neighbors children but they should please let justice prevail for any victim of SGBV because most time police collect bribe , Perpetrators will be released and this act discourages victims ' Mrs Olowookere concluded
